YouTube Star Summer Mckeen To Have ‘Endless Summer’ In Snapchat Original Series

Summer Mckeen is getting ready for an Endless Summer. Mckeen, a YouTube star whose beauty, fashion, and lifestyle videos have attracted more than 1.4 million subscribers, will star in a Snapchat docuseries that will chronicle her first year living alone in Laguna Beach.

On her YouTube channel, Mckeen offers fare typical of beauty influencer, such as “get ready with me” videos, makeup hauls, and the like, to her viewers. Her content often features her boyfriend, Dylan Jordan, who will factor into Endless Summer as well. While Mckeen lives in her own home in Laguna Beach, Jordan takes up residence next door. The couple recently shared their “love story” in a video on Jordan’s channel.

The nature of Endless Summer — its Southern California setting, its focus on teenagers, and its non-fictional format — makes it familiar territory for its producer, Bunim/Murray Productions. One of the Glendale, CA-based studio’s best known projects is The Real World, which has delivered 32 seasons of teenage angst on MTV.

“Bunim-Murray is always exploring new methods of storytelling, so Snapchat was a natural fit to help tell Summer’s story with us,” Bunim-Murray president of entertainment and development Julie Pizzi told Variety. “They’ve been an incredibly creative and collaborative partner throughout our production and filming process and have been very open to experimenting in this genre and format.”

This is the first time Snapchat has green-lit an original docuseries for its platform, though its senior director of content programming Sean Mills told Variety that Snapchat plans to launch more shows that feature “compelling people around the world as they go through dramatic life moments, incredible journeys, and challenging relationships.”

Individual episodes of Endless Summer will air for three to five minutes and will begin to arrive in September.
