David Dobrik, Casey Neistat, and Joey Graceffa’s long-running YouTube Premium hit Escape The Night are poised to clean up big at the eighth annual Streamy Awards, which are slated to stream live from The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles on Oct. 22 at 9:00 pm ET.
Like the 2016 awards, YouTube has been named the global distribution partner for this year’s Streamys, which annually recognizes accomplishments in the online video space. (Last year’s awards aired on Twitter). The 2018 Streamys, which are produced by Dick Clark Productions and Tubefilter, will be available on a dedicated YouTube channel.
While Dobrik is this year’s most-nominated creator in six total categories, Neistat and Escape The Night are close on his tail with five nominations apiece. Meanwhile, newcomer Emma Chamberlain, docuseries director Shane Dawson, gaming superstar Ninja, and comedy star DeStorm Power each received four nominations. Dawson was recognized for his TanaCon expose, while Power was nominated for his web series Caught. In addition to digital-native stars, this year’s Streamys also recognized Kevin Durant (in the ‘Sports’ category), Kevin Hart (‘Branded Content Series’), Marshmello (‘Food’), Shay Mitchell (‘Storyteller’), and Jaden Smith (‘Breakthrough Artist’).

Interestingly, after the Streamys removed gender distinctions in the ‘Performance’ awards, female creators led males in the ‘Comedy’ category for the first time. Furthermore, male creators topped females in the ‘Beauty’ category by a ratio of 3:2.
“We founded the Streamys to recognize all voices, and this year we are proud to honor the most diverse and engaging group of creatives in Streamys’ history,” Streamys and Tubefilter founder Drew Baldwin said in a statement. “Our partnership with YouTube not only allows us to recognize the nominees where so many of them began their careers and continue to flourish, but as the world’s largest video sharing platform, YouTube enables us to celebrate the achievements of the creator community on a truly global scale.”
Fan voting for the two ‘Audience Choice’ categories — ‘Creator Of The Year’ and ‘Show Of The Year’ — will kick off on Oct. 8. The rest of the winners will be determined by a Blue Ribbon Panel of creators, execs, and other industry experts.
