Nothing, Except Everything is getting a big-screen treatment. That’s the name of a short film that earned plaudits for young writer/director Wesley Wang when it premiered last September. Wang has now inked a deal with Darren Aronofsky‘s Protozoa for a feature adaptation of Nothing, Except Everything.
According to Deadline, TriStar Pictures has picked up the film rights for Nothing, Except Everything. Wang’s 13-minute short film, which explores existential themes in a high school setting, was already a film festival darling before its breakout on YouTube. At the Indy Shorts International Film Festival, Wang won the Summer White Lynch Memorial Award, which goes to an outstanding high school filmmaker. The 19-year-old Harvard student completed Nothing, Except Everything during his senior year of high school.
Since its arrival on Wang’s YouTube channel, Nothing, Except Everything has received more than 4.4 million views. The project has received praise for its artful depiction of teenage angst and Wang’s clever script.

Wang announced his feature film deal on Instagram. He noted that he is the youngest director to “set up a movie at a major studio.” Despite the historic nature of his Protozoa deal, he is not the first creator to reach the big screen after dazzling audiences on YouTube. The Australian duo behind the Racka Racka channel delivered a hit with their feature-length horror movie Talk To Me, and film reviewer Chris Stuckmann recently brought on scare master Mike Flanagan for his in-production directorial debut, titled Shelby Oaks.
In addition to Nothing, Except Everything, Wang has released several other short films on his YouTube channel, including MUTE and you are seen.
