The last full week of May was a strong period for the channels at the front of our Global Top 50. Three of those channels increased their traffic week-over-week, and all five took in at least 540 million weekly views.

Here are some of the top stories we’re tracking up and down the chart:
Chart Toppers
Anaya Kandhal is on a hot streak once again. The channel that led all of our weekly charts in April has collected its second-straight #1 finish in May. Alongside her family, young Anaya has become the most-watched star in the growing category of South Asian kidfluencers. Some of her contemporaries are challenging her dominance (more on that later), but no other channel in the world can keep up with the pace Anaya Kandhal is setting. The Indian hub led the Global Top 50 during a seven-day period when it reeled in 861.6 million weekly views.
MrBeast enjoyed a big week-over-week bump that brought him from seventh in the Global Top 50 all the way up to second. The most-watched individual creator in the U.S. (whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson) typically gets a boost in our charts every time he releases one of his big-budget spectacles. But even without a new release, the MrBeast channel collected 727.2 million weekly views during the final week of May. MrBeast got more weekly views than T-Series and is now within five million subscribers of the Indian label’s record-holding total.
Speaking of T-Series, the most-watched and most-subscribed YouTube channel of all time landed in third place in this week’s Global Top 50. T-Series bolstered its traffic by 7% week-over-week but couldn’t push high enough to reclaim the runner-up position it has occupied more often than any other channel. T-Series will have to settle for a second consecutive third-place finish even though it pulled in 675.1 million weekly views. The Indian hub is the first YouTube channel to reach 256 billion lifetime views.
KL BRO Biju Rithvik is fourth in the Global Top 50. The Malayalam-language channel is the second-most popular Indian family channel among those that predominantly distribute non-English videos. Though KL BRO isn’t quite as popular as Anaya Kandhal among South Asian viewers, it has benefitted from the global popularity of YouTube Shorts. Its quick-hitting videos collected 582.8 million weekly views as May came to a close. By the end of June, KL BRO should reach 50 million subscribers and 40 billion lifetime YouTube views.
MaviGadget rounds out this week’s global top five. With videos that focus on tools and machinery, the Shorts hub counted 542 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
MaviGadget is not the only channel delivering big numbers by showcasing machinery on YouTube Shorts. GS PACKER is a China-based channel that has become a big hit thanks to the hardware that shows up in its short-form clips.
GS PACKER’s channel handle, “QINGDAOPACKER,” suggests that it operates in one of China’s largest ports. So what is this China-based content the U.S. government is so worried about?
Well, if GS PACKER is any indication, Chinese creators want to teach the rest of the world how to match its industrial and agricultural output. The most-watched GS PACKER videos are essentially “farm hacks.” They show viewers how to make improvised tools and clean up messes left by livestock. Of course, this is YouTube Shorts, so those more handy clips are accompanied by videos that scratch the “oddly satisfying” itch and show off retro equipment, MaviGadget style.
At first glance, these videos may not seem to have global appeal, but they actually rank among the most-watched YouTube Shorts uploads in the world. During the final week of May, GS PACKER rose to an all-time high ranking of #15 in the Global Top 50. It achieved that high-water mark thanks to a week-over-week viewership of 23%. That bump brought it up to 368.7 million weekly views, putting it above chart stalwarts like Zack D. Films and Zach King (and presumably some lesser Zachs).
So there you have it: American politicians may be worried about the short-form videos coming out of China, but the truth may not be so scary. The most-watched videos coming out of Chinese channels depict humble mechanical processes and nothing more sinister.
